Tube dementia remedy – THE GO PRO HERO
|
![]() GoPro in action at Pipeline. The view from inside a tube is (and forever will be) the Holy Grail of surfing. The quest to plonk oneself in this magic chair is achingly true for all rookie watermen and women. Doesn’t matter if they’re seven-year-old minnows, or 58-year-old grey grommets. Getting even a split second glimpse of the oceans psychodelic wonderland is a dream come true. Sad thing is, some daren't even dream this pipe dream (sorry) to exist in their mind. Happy to turtle along the crest of a wave with the wind in their hair is enough – more then enough. And that’s cool. The radical thing about this sacred womb is that it’s totally feasible for any demographic to one day enjoy this glorious view (through perseverance, a passion for skill enhancement and pure luck of course). And let’s not forget the already converted. Those of us who’ve knelt before the Alter of surfing long enough to have enjoyed this watery embrace, and continually pay due penance in order to return as often as Mother Nature allows. In a nut shell getting barrelled is with out doubt the greatest pleasure one can obtain while surfing, and I’d argue is the greatest pleasure on earth. However? There's one problem. This barrel is such a magical place and so fantastical that memories of time spent inside can evaporate within minutes, sometimes seconds. Sure, the timeless wonderment and soft growling sounds will echo within your head, but clear visual memory can be lost so quickly that questioning whether you were in there at all is common place. Luckily for those suffering tube time dementia there is a remedy. The GoPro HD Surf HERO is here and it’s a little ripper. This camera can be mounted on a surfboard in minutes and shoots both high quality video and stills. Imagine getting the barrel of your life and having it on film to play the grandkids too. Or watch over and over at work to help get you over the Wednesday arvo hump. As shown in the video provided the vision is clear and sharp, and for the full sensory experience the in built microphone works a treat too. Recording your hoots and the waves huffs. While capturing time in the tube is the ultimate use of the GoPro, there’s also the good times had out on the face doing turns, paddling into waves and even duck diving or free diving without your board. Basically the possibilities are endless for this sucker. Hold it your hand, attach it to your board or swim with it in your hand filming your mates. Batteries in the GoPro last for over 2.5 hours so you can document your entire surf session or that of a friend. And good thing is downloading the vision is easy. So quick edits are a breeze.
