That Dane Reynold's Turn – VIDEO

One of the believers is Shane Dorian, a former World Championship Tour stalwart and pretty much the gnarliest big wave surfer on the planet. “I’m gonna go out and say that’s pretty much one of the gnarliest turns I’ve ever seen in my whole life,” said Shane from the commentary booth. “I’m seriously baffled about what he just did. There’s probably one person on Earth that could do that turn, and it’s Dane Reynolds, pure and simple, that’s a fact. Honestly, in the whole surfing world, if you gave everyone on Earth that same section and said “I wanna see you do that,” there’s probably only one guy who can do it, and it’s Dane Reynolds.” Dane's welcome lack of any sort of claim doesn't mean he cares any less. "I'm in it [the event] to try and win," Dane said in his post heat interview. "...I guess, or just more importantly, I just put a lot of pressure on myself to surf well, and turn that, to equal a win. But I'm definitely not too lackadaisical otherwise I wouldn't be here." Happy to be able to watch Dane Reynolds compete live? We sure am. |

Just another beach break schnapp & certainly nothing on TC at Pipe. Still good to see him disappear under the broken lip & make it out. Sure it would have scored high.

maaaate. that turn had everything! speed, power, style, rail, backfoot stomp, inverted twistiness, slide, layback, magic foam recovery... and it was a barreling section. YEW!!!
