Vanimo Surf Lodge, Papua New Guinea

![]() Lido right top turn. Vanimo Surf Lodge, Papua New Guinea: Situated approx. 1500 Kilometers north of Cairns, Australia, is a brand new surf lodge that has just opened. We might be new but we complement the deserted waves and north shore location that have been here forever. This is the location you may be looking for if you have a taste for adventure and the unexpected. We have been visiting and building knowledge of this rare location for the past 20 years and we’re now ready to share it with the lucky few who dare to venture away from the maddening crowds to find their piece of isolation and empty waves. Each day we do swell and wind research to plan the next day’s surfing so that we can take you to the best available waves on the day. We are nestled amongst the palm fringed shore line with a backdrop of vertical intense jungle but still only a 10 minute drive from the airport. Immediately out the front door is a long winding right hander rock/sand bottom point break that usually works dawn to dusk and is not tide affected. The question is how much surfing can you fit in the day? There are another 7 right and left breaks within a 2 to 15 minute drive along the coastal road so we can easily split our surfers up if requested. Vanimo is managed by a surf area management plan which limits the numbers to a maximum of 20 visiting surfers. When you are not surfing there are plenty of other activities such as waterfall bush walks, swimming, snorkeling, fishing or just relaxing at the bar overlooking the surf. High Season: November-April, Fringe Season October and May.
