Nigel Annesley

Nigel grew up surfing at Whale Beach and started surfing age 5 shaping his first board at 17. His first job was working at a marina; maintaining boats, hull design and fibreglassing/sanding. The way objects moved through the water has always interested Nigel. The first surfboards he shaped led to an opportunity to work as a surfboard sander for Sydney's leading glassing factory, The Laminator

Over the next four years Nigel learned all aspects of board production as well as sanding thousands of boards for labels such as Webber, Al Merrick, Xanadu, Simon Anderson, Insight, CHP and U-turn. After-hours he took advantage of an empty shaping bay and hand shaped boards under his own label.

His shaping talent caught the attention of Luke Short (LSD Surfboards) who offered him a full-time shaping job. Jumping at the chance, Nigel hand shaped countless custom and stock orders for Australia, Japan and Europe, all the time gaining invaluable knowledge and experience.

After about 12 months with LSD he also started shaping for Webber Surfboards forming a close working relationship with Greg Webber, a creative genius at the forefront of surfboard design, all the time refining his shapes and drawing inspiration from Greg.

Following shaping stints in WA and Lennox Head Nigel moved back to Mona Vale in 2005 and set up Annesley Surfboards in a state of the art surfboard factory.

Shaping Machine

Nigel uses the latest generation iSurfshapes CNC (Computer Numerical Control) shaping machines designed specifically for custom surfboards and allow for the design process to be controlled in the software.

The CNC machines allow the shaper to create a surfboard with incredible accuracy. Nigel is the most experienced designer shaper in the surfing world using this software and has a professionalism and work ethic that exceeds all competitors and customer expectations.
