Whats your main motivation for shaping surf crafts at the moment?

Matt Abbot and Lee Stacey are the next generation of shaper. Their young fresh approach combined with craftsmanship to back it, has given them a committed look at the advancement of design.

Is there anything you are doing differently now as opposed to 12 months ago?

The whole range of Sixstar design has changed to accommodate the whole range of surfers out there. We have been shaping for Mick Campbell, Travis Lynch, Shaun Gossman for some time now and have had great success with these guys.

How have board designs changed in the last five years?

The design theory's have stayed the same, but the way they are made and the technology search in machines and manufacturing is where the real changes are being made.

How long have you been shaping?

Matt Abbot 4 years, Lee Stacey 5 years.

Approximately how many boards have you shaped in your lifetime?

Between us, thousands.

What design innovations are you currently working on at the moment?

I wouldn't say innovations, just more work being done on the range of boards to suit all surfers.

What do you think the current surfboards designs could improve upon?

Fins need some work and fin systems. Better quality of removable fin for the entry level boards.

What advice would you give the average punter when ordering a board for the first time?

Buy a board off a manufacturer who makes boards for teams of your weight and style of surfing. You'll have a better chance of getting it right sooner than later.

Who is on your surf team?

Mick Campbell, Travis Lynch, Shaun Gossman.

What is your advice on fins considering the options available today?

As long as there is support for the fin you buy (get more of them and get it fixed) then you should be right. Our team ride glass on's as fin of choice.

Apart from yourself, what other shapers do you think are leading the way at the moment?

JS, Webber, Al Merrick.
