So, does anyone skate anymore? What do you use? Do you skate bowls as if you were in the water? Are you a kick flip machine? Are you maybe a cruiser and ride a longy to the shops?

Do you think skating actually helps your surfing?

When I was a grom I'd skate whenever I wasn't surfing... And yes it was surfing on concrete. My neighbor and I had the perfect little drive way set up next door at my Aunties. It had a step drop that tapered into a long wall topped with grass – perfect for reo-grind slides. It then ran under a bush lined straight perfect for barrels. And when there were cars there it made a good tube ride all the more difficult and rewarding. As well as funny as friggen all hell when someone got bent out of shape in the barrel, hit the car and went down... Why did I stop skating? Well besides no decent ramp being built by our council (Avalon finally got a park when I was 25), it was to risky. I hated being out of the water and skating vert ramps and street without pads would eventually lead to injury.
I was skating to surf and when skating effected my surfing that was it. I feel the same way about snowboarding. I'll do both every now and then but nothing, nothing! Beats getting barreled.

I skateboard. Not into all the major tricks and all that as i'm not very good and just teaching myself but I just use it to cruise around. Just got a cheapie from K-Mart for like 20 bucks which I got like 6 years ago but I want to get a new one soon.

edit: creapy, we posted at exactly the same time :/ Anyway they sound like some good times Col :)

Just checked out the Dogtown and Z-boys doco... I'm ready to go skate some pools, break some bones and spill some claret ... Actually I think i'll just go surfing. It is quite interesting though how we in 2010 are transporting back to the 70's with fashion and art, hell even our mags are heading back that way and I for one am stoked about it...

Been there ... done that ... until the inevitable downhill, high-speed, no pad bone grind on the asphalt which ended that ... couldn't do any surfing for two weeks, that plus some mongrel stole my fibreglass flex G & S 35 years ago
Ha, got a $30 Kmart for my kids several years ago which I use about once a year to roll around in the back parking lot ... then forget about it for another year.

There's a skate park in view of my house, seams to attract kids from either end of the scale, one group wear clothes that are 4 sizes too big and the other group wear tight black jeans and look like Dracula. The bmx crowd rip, lotsa commitment to do back flips on concrete.
