Music and surfing with Kita Alexander

This is Kita Alexander.

Kita Alexander hails from little old Port Macquarie. She surfs and writes music and has been thrust into the roller-coaster ride of the indie-pop scene, travelling around the world and looking to write albums that get the young (and hopefully old) bopping. I sent her some questions via web land that she sent back to someone via iPhone who then sent it back to me and it’s official – she thinks my Mum’s hot and we’re going for surf one day.

Kita, you now live in Sydney but spent some time in the place I grew up (Byron), how’s life there compared to Sydney and have you met my mum? Her name is Mandy.

Ahh Byron is one of my favourite places in the whole world besides seal rocks down near Forster. Sydney doesn’t stand a chance when being compared to it ha. But Bondi is pretty fucking insane when you get stuck in hellaye. Mandy, hmm. I know one Mandy who is a babe and kinda young. She could be your Mum if you’re 12?

You started traveling and performing from quite a young age. How do you deal with life on the road, especially when you’re not by the coast?

Travelling is heaps of fun, although I miss the motherland so much. When I get stuck inland with no coast I go pretty crazy. Lack of Vitamin D and not being able to get salty screws with my brain a little.

With an album due out in 2016, are you still writing songs or have you enough tracks for the debut?

I’ve got enough tracks for the album, but I just love writing so much I don’t want to stop. You never know, tomorrow I could write the best song of my life.

You wanna go surfing together?

Yeah, let’s go.
