Wade Goodall Out With Compound Leg Break

Aerial super-man Wade Goodall has suffered a compound lower left leg break and a fractured left ankle.

The kind of move a betting man would have picked as the culprit for such an injury not “a tiny pit?” Pic: Billabong

Aerial super-man Wade Goodall, from Caloundra (Sunshine Coast, Qld) has suffered a compound lower left leg break and a fractured left ankle surfing near Angourie on the NSW far North Coast on Wednesday.

Surfing with good friend and fellow Billabong team rider Laurie Towner, Wade snapped both his fibula and tibia pulling into what he later described in a text message to Tracksmag.com as “a tiny pit.” The little left hand breaking barrel took Wade down in a way he’d never experienced before. Explaining to his manager Sean Cody, that his board had spun around 180 degrees.

Luckily Laurie was there to scoop Wade up and return him to shore where he was then rushed to Lismore hospital for an operation – one of many according to his doctors.

At this stage it’s too early to put a time line on Wade’s recovery time, but the doctors have said being such a clean snap was a positive. This type of break tends to heal well post operations.

Titanium will be used to bolster the leg and Wade will be couch bound for at least three months.

A tough way to go down, considering the star of the Creative Destruction webisodes has one of the most spectacular aerial acts in the world today.

Wade declared himself too bent on morphine to give a full description of what went down but Sean has told Tracksmag.com that he and Laurie are fairly rattled by the experience – bone piecing skin will do that to the best of us.

Stay tuned for more details.

Tracks wishes Wade all the best for a successful and speedy recovery.
