Despite the world’s descent into chaos and disorder at the hands of the evil Coronavirus, you can’t dismiss the fact that Autumn remains one of the best times of the year to be a surfer in OZ. Crisp lines of swell have been folding up and down the east coast, frequently groomed by morning westerlies that turn the ocean into a velvet-skinned wonderland. Free from any contest obligations some of the world’s best surfers have had little to do but sit around and wait for the optimum tide. 2020 will be chalked up as a low point in world history but in OZ it might be remembered as the year that witnessed the best free surfing in decades.
