(Maroubra, NSW – Friday, 24 June 2011): With ten state titles up for grabs, the best surfers in the state are set to converge on Kiama for the VB NSW Open Surfmasters Titles next week.

The event will see over 170 of the best surfers in NSW compete across 10 divisions for the prestigious State Titles, with 37 surfers qualifying for the Australian Surf Festival in August.

The beautiful and wave-rich Kiama region on the NSW South Coast will host the 5-day event, providing the perfect location for competition.

According to Mark Windon, Surfing NSW CEO, Kiama is the perfect place to hold the prestigious event, which will showcase world-class surfing talent.

“We are really looking forward to getting back to Kiama for the VB NSW Open Surfmasters, it’s been a highly successful event for the last 2 years which attracts a high calibre of surfers”.

“We think its really important to take events south of Sydney and the Kiama region delivers every time, the growing interest has extended the competition and it will now run for 5 days, with added divisions taking place for 2011”.

The event acts as the qualifier for Team NSW for the 2011 Australian Surfmasters Titles which are set to be held during the Australian Surf Festival from 13-27 August 2011.

Bryan Whitaker from Kiama Council said that Council is proud to be supporting such a high profile event in the local area, which will attract the states best male and female surfers.

“Kiama Council are delighted to again be able to sponsor and host the 2011 NSW Surf Masters Titles,” said Whitaker.

“This is now the third year that Council has sponsored the event which has proven to be a significant sporting highlight of the annual Calender of events conducted in beautiful Kiama. The event has not only been great for the local surfing community but has also been positive for the local economy”.

Led by a crop of professionals including Pro Junior stars Sam Lendrum (Nords Wharf, NSW), Ryan Callinan (Merewether, NSW), Connor Oleary (Cronulla, NSW) and local Rhys Bombaci (Kiama Downs, NSW), the NSW Surfmasters sees surfers from each of the ten Surfing NSW regions competing for state supremacy.

The event will be fully mobile in the Kiama area with Main Beach, Bombo Beach, Jones Beach and Werri Beach all venue options. The daily Running Schedule and Contest location will be confirmed on the Event Hotline (0458 247 212) after 7:00am each day of the event.
