NATHAN FLORENCE AND KOA ROTHMAN RAGE WITH THE COMEDY MACHINE

How the Hawaiian Vlog duo connected with funny guy, Bert Kreischer.

Anyone who is a comedy nerd knows of living legend and functioning alcoholic Bert Kreischer. Whoever doesn’t know Bert, he’s a comedian, actor and well-known “party animal”. Bert’s a close friend of Joe Rogan and co-hosts the popular podcast Two Bears One Cave with Tom Segura. The career larrikin’s breakout to mainstream fame came when he mingled with the Russian Mafia. It’s also how he got the nickname, ‘The Machine’. The story went viral, with the video currently nearly at 50 million views on YouTube.

Bert discovered Nathan and Koa through the YouTube algorithm, which ultimately led him down a rabbit hole into a deep fascination with the surfing world. The 49-year-old has even begun taking surfing lessons. His surfing knowledge is kind of impressive and he asked the Hawaiian surf duo some interesting questions.

Some classic stories were told in the podcast, but the most shocking one referenced Nate’s Van’s teammate Michael February. The slinky-limbed freesurfer was apparently nearly killed with a machete on his way to surf a break in South Africa. (1 hour 3 minute mark).

There were revealing discussions on the business side of surfing and how producing content has become more valuable than performances and contests. Maybe, don’t take Bert’s knowledge of Hawaiian history as fact. Is it true that James Cook’s crew gave syphilis to the Hawaiian locals within the first 30 minutes of landing? He’s not wrong with his tragic history of venereal diseases but he may have fast-tracked the transmission process.

Anyway, Koa and Nathan announced that they are starting a podcast together. I guess Nathan will be ripping right into a podcast camp. HA! (Only people that watch Nathan’s vlogs would get this genius joke).

The boys would’ve had a rough hangover if they decided to keep drinking with The Machine. Bert doesn’t mess around when it comes to getting on the booze.

Enjoy the poddy!
