According to Interim Commissioner Keiren Perrow next year’s tour is in good hands. “The 2014 ASP Men’s WCT, ASP Women’s WCT and qualification tours are designed to produce the world’s most comprehensive and exciting surfers. There’s a lot happening within the sport next year and it’s a very exciting time for professional surfing.”
For the first time in organisation’s storied 37-year history, next season will be the first time all of professional surfing’s initiatives from production to athlete care to marketing to operations to media and onwards will be centralised under the purview of the ASP, creating a well-resourced, fan-centric and athlete focused entity committed to celebrating the sport.
Although the details of these initiatives, marketing and operational changes are yet to be revealed we can see that the Margaret River Pro, Fji Pro and Bali Pro have yet to be assigned a naming sponsor. Whatever the case we’re excited to see that the Men’s World Championship Tour has been boosted to eleven events and the Women’s World Championship Tour has secured nine. 2014 is shaping up to being one of the most exciting in competitive surfing history.
