Break a leg Parko

Joel Parkinson Slices his heel off at Snapper. He will not be surfing at J’bay

I’m sure when Joel Parkinson’s massive following of well-wishers for J’bay said “Break a leg”, this is not what they meant.

After a recent soul destroying flat spell on the Gold Coast, Huey finally graced us with enough swell to fire up the points. Snapper as always was the focal point and the hordes were on it.

After a session amongst the masses at Snapper and a run on the Kirra express, I canned my surf and whilst changing at the car was nearly hit by a speeding Ambulance.

I’m pretty sure I mentioned something about kooks always hurting themselves at Snapper to a mate. Little did I know that this was no “Kook accident”.

Joel Parkinson had managed to take off half his hoof, with what could only really be a fin. The photo say’s it all and Joel was in good enough spirits to tweet us the butchery that it is from his hospital bed, surely puffing on the magic pain removing whistle.

It was around this time last year Joel busted his ankle in Bali, which famously threw anchors off an otherwise speeding ship to a world title. With the waiting period for one of his pet events, J’bay getting underway in less than a week Joel will not have sufficient time for his foot to heal and will not be going.

This all comes after another Gold Coast CT shredder Dean Morrision was knocked unconscious in a bar last weekend. Coolangatta locals I’m sure will be quick to throw some cotton wool around Mick Fanning who we heard recently got a pretty gnarly stomach bug, and so the dominoes fall.

Speedy recovery Joel.
