Mitch Coleborn, surfing as a wildcard in the 2013 Volcom Fiji Pro, caused the upset of Round One when he beat the reigning 11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater in their round one heat. Mitch had had a pretty rough start, finding himself out of position and wearing a number of waves right on the head. Late in the heat he finally got it together and rebounded in sensational fashion, grabbing a 9.27 for a deep barrel off the top of the point, followed by an 8.10, logging in the highest heat total of the day with a 17.37 out of a possible 20.
