News services are reporting a fatal shark attack on the Gold Coast. According to reports, the man died after being bitten on the leg while bodyboarding at Greenmount.
The incident follows the fatal attack of a 6o-year-old surfer, half an hour down the coast at Casurina in June.
Greenmount, is part of the popular Superbank stretch where the sheer volume of people often tends to deliver a false sense of security when it comes to sharks. The fabled Coolangatta point breaks at the base of an enchanting headland covered in Pandanus palms and tall Pines. It’s one of the prettiest parts of the Gold Coast and the last place you might feel threatened.
The attack comes despite the long-standing use of nets on the Gold Coast beaches. No fatal shark attack is ever good for anyone but given the location, this one is likely to resonate a little further.
