Nothing makes a sporting nation prouder than seeing one of its own home grown people step up, and stand out, in the big bad world beyond its border’s (or in our case, coastline). This shot of Owen Wright flying his flag is indicative of the amazing success the unusually tall goofy-footer had on the ASP World Tour last year. Three back-to-back-to-back finals against Kelly Slater, a feat that included the massive 300 grand payday win at New York, the pinnacle of such success.

Tracksmag.com thinks it only fitting that on the week we of the Antipodes celebrate a little thing called Australia Day, we also raise a glass to surfers like Owen, Parko and Julian Wilson, who are lighting it up for their Island home.

The same can be said for guys and girls like Mark Mathews, Sally Fitzgibbons and Ben Rowley.

Enjoy your week Australia, and remember to celebrate diversity and tolerance within our society, along with the love of your friends and family – and of course give thanks to this beautifully expansive land mass and the thousands of miles of coastline it offers us. Yew!
