Tommy ‘Gun’ Carroll lit up the crowd pulling into the big outside lefts, Kelly Slater went vertical on the inside rights and Brazilian sensation Gabriel Medina trumped all with a frontside aerial that screamed futuristic-function. With the main event on hold, the Quikky Pro focus turned from tallying heat scores to oneupmanship. There may not have been any ASP World Tour rating points on the line, but still thousands of rabid French surf fans paid close attention from the waters edge. When was the last time you saw a Mexican wave at a surfing event?
