South African live electronic act Goldfish risk their international creditability by welcoming the world number two too sing on a new track. |
“I’m flying stealth, I’m flying stealth…” Jordy Smith belts out his lines in the Goldfish studio.
Goldfish are huge in South Africa. In 2009, they set a new South African Music Awards record for most nominations, with 8, clinching Best Producer and Best Dance Album. Jordy Smith is also big in his homeland – he stands at 6’2. And his profile looms even larger. David Poole and Dom Peters of Goldfish have long been fans of his surfing and Jordy of the group’s tunes and beats. Apparently that’s what he had spinning in his oversized headphones throughout last years ASP world tour. Jordy and his love of karaoke… and Goldfish and their love of Jordy have come together to make sweet sweet music together. And crow-peck my eyeball if it doesn’t sound half bad. Being a an electronic act Jordy’s voice is most certainly aided and abetted by studio wizardry, but so what. He even wrote a few lines himself and was gung-ho in the studio and didn’t mess around getting behind the mic. “I wasn’t really sure what I was going to sing about”, Jordy told Surfer magazine, “I had a few lines and ideas, but some words came to me and I was feeling it I guess.” Damn straight player. I reckon the kid did allright, and typically the Red Bull camera crew were their to film the session along with a bonding surf at a nearby by air friendly corner. Sure, he won’t be quitting the tour to support his family with his music any time soon, but he can certainly claim this decent effort, Flying Stealth.

FLYING STEALTH LYRICS
I’m flying stealth/
Oh I’m flying Stealth
I got a quest to be one of the best
I refuse to give up like the rest
Sorry I been away for so long
Thinking of my family keeps me strong.
