A man has died after being attacked by a shark at Shelley Beach near Ballina, NSW.
Ambulance crews attempted to revive the person on the sand but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A group of surfers are believed to have pulled the victim from the water.
Police are currently at the scene and lifeguards are scouring the area for the “fair-sized shark”.
A NSW Ambulance media spokeswoman said the age of the victim could not be confirmed at this stage.
All beaches from South Ballina to Lennox Head have been closed and swimmers and surfers ordered out of the water.
