Mick Fanning must be feeling pretty happy after his win at J-Bay. With a second event win for the season he moves into third place on the world rankings and makes the road that little bit easier to contend for his fourth world title. He arrived back to the Gold Coast this week, silverware in tow, to find perfect little runners zippering down Snapper Rocks. According to photographer Azad Sellars it was only 2 foot but groomed to perfection. With almost as many photographers as surfers tussling for a spot in the lineup getting the shot was as competitive as finding a hole. “As always Mick was jagging the best ones,” recalls Azad. But even the world champ isn’t immune to being faded. “After a few overzealous surfers opted for an impromptu party wave Fanning light heartedly quipped, c’mon guys, it’s only two foot.”
