Miracle: Kelly Back in J-Bay Draw

The 11x World Champ to return to the event where he broke his foot last year.

Kelly Slater has put himself back in the draw at J-Bay after previously pulling out citing an ongoing foot injury. This news is music to the WSL and our ears since Slater had disappeared from the Tour with all signs signalling retirement.

However, many had criticised his decison to sideline himself especially after he chased the infamous May swell to Cloudbreak and competed in The Founders Cup. Other factors include the injuries that have snuffed out Caio Ibelli and John John Florence. Both will be vying for an injury wildcard next season and have withdrawn from the J-Bay event.

Miguel Pupo and Wiggolly Dantas will replace JJF and Caio. While Mikey Wright, currently sitting at No. 7 on the Jeep Leaderboard has been granted a wildcard spot based on his results this season.

Kelly will meet World No. 3 Italo Ferreira and Kanoa Igarashi in Round 1 when the event kicks off.
