Mitch Parkinson Wins the 2013 Chiko MP Classic

Mitch Parkinson is on top of the world after taking out the first event of the Chiko Queensland Championship Circuit (QCC).

“I’m ecstatic, I’ve just been training with my coach for so long have a good result and it’s been such a long time coming, I’m just so happy it’s finally come,” said Parkinson after the win.

Parkinson now goes into the next event of the 4-event QCC, the Chiko Alley Classic, as the number one seed and is already setting his sights on a great series result.

“I feel confident coming off a win and I’m going to take the next event heat-by-heat again, I’d love to get that trials spot, but it’s a long way away and I guess it’s just a carrot dangling for me.”

For the win, Parkinson takes home a $5000 winner’s cheque along with a Michael Peterson designed single-fin surfboard.

Last year’s Chiko MP Classic champion, Lincoln Taylor (Point Lookout, QLD) secured a great result again this year after a berth in the semi finals and is now placed well for the 2013 QCC series along with Coolangatta’s Noa Deane and the Sunshine Coast’s Chris Friend, who also placed in the semi finals of this year’s event.

The QCC now heads to Currumbin Alley for the next event of the 4-event series, the Chiko Alley Classic, held over the 11th and 12th of May.

The 2013 QCC series boasts a stellar AUD$30,000 prize-pool, with an extra AUD$500 randomly awarded to four competitors who compete in all four events.

Based on competitors’ best three-of-four results, the series’ top two athletes will once again get the chance to compete against the world’s best surfers at the 2014 ASP World Championship Tour Quiksilver Pro Trials, Snapper Rocks.

To ensure the QCC‘s top two under 18 athletes are performing at their optimum for the Quiksilver Pro Trials, Surfing Queensland in conjunction with Surfing Australia will provide two-days of training at the world-class Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.
