A new film tells the real story of Indonesian surfing. |
17-year-old Oney Anwar has big dreams
“All I want is to see an Indonesian flag up there, alongside the others at major events,” the ambitious Indonesian grommet told Tracks back in June. On the back of Oney’s success as a junior, a new film is set to chart his journey from a Lakey Peak kid who learned to surf on half a board, to an aspiring world tour surfer. By combining compelling action footage, with a classical documentary approach, the film delivers an insightful take on the unique challenges faced by Indonesia’s surfers. Oney proves to be an engaging figure in and out of the water and irrespective of whether or not he achieves his goal of qualifying for the world tour, he has already done much to further the cause of Indonesian surfing. The trailer is definitely worth a look.
