Boardriding Clubs from Victoria and South Australia will have their chance to qualify to the 2012 Jim Beam Surftag Australian Championships with the Victorian leg of the Series being held at Mornington’s Gunnamatta Beach on Saturday 3rd December.

South Australian Clubs Seaview Road, Seaford and South Coast will take on Torquay, 13th Beach, Phillip Island and Peninsula with the top three teams joining the countries best at the Australian Championships in February.

Defending Victoria Jim Beam Surftag Champions Torquay Boardriders won last year’s event at their local beach Jan Juc with Cahill Bell-Warren the standout. “We have really been looking forward to competing in the Surftag for the last few months,” said Bell-Warren. “We have won this event before at Gunnamatta and it’s always a fun bus trip over with the team.”

Fellow WQS campaigner Jack Perry and former WCT surfer Troy Brooks will join Bell-Warren in the five man Torquay team with the remaining two spots still being decided from a healthy talent pool.

Also boarding a bus to Gunnamatta and competing for the first time in the Jim Beam Surftag will be South Australia’s South Coast Boardriders. Club President Aaron Woods said “The boys are all pumped, obviously the series brings out the best surfers in Australia so the boys all know it’s going to be tuff. It is a great opportunity for the team to surf at a higher level.”

The 2012 JBS Australian Series carries a prize pool of $120,000 in cash and prizes with $1500 awarded to the VIC Champions. Also on offer will be a $1700 boat trip to the Maldives courtesy of The Perfect Wave Surf Experience. The surfer with the highest score during the VIC event will win the boat trip and join five other JBS winners from around Australia.

Competition will commence at 9.00am on Saturday with the presentation and Jim Beam after party at the Peninsula Surfriders Club house straight after the final.
