SYDNEY (Thursday, 8 January 2015):  A handful of promising international surfers will be making the journey to Sydney next week to compete in the upcoming 2015 Carve Pro Junior at Maroubra.

Surfers will be coming from as far away as Japan, Tahiti and New Zealand to compete in the elite three-day World Surf League (WSL) Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) event, which will kick off on the eastern Sydney beach from the 16th – 18th January, 2015.

“Last year we saw a great response to the inaugural Carve Pro Junior and this year it’s grown to the point where it’s become a desired stop for aspiring pro surfers from all over the world,” said Surfing NSW General Manager Luke Madden.

“Surfing NSW are over the moon to see so many junior surfers venturing to Maroubra to compete in the event and potentially bag themselves the first WSL JQS event title of 2015.”

As part of the 2015 Carve Pro Junior, 72 of the best male pro junior surfers from Australia and the world will fight it out for over $20,000 worth of prize money, giveaways and valuable WSL Australasia JQS points.

Local surfer Max McGuigan (Chifley) has been granted a local wildcard into the event as has 2014 NRMA Under-16 NSW Junior Champion Jack Murray (Lennox Head). Both aforementioned surfers recently competed in the 2014 Surf Dive N Ski Australian Junior Titles in Yallingup, WA.

Again, the Carve Pro Junior will be run concurrently with the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage, which stands to showcase some of Australia’s hottest Under-16 year-old surfers.

In 2013, the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage series was fine-tuned and compressed into an elite event that ran at Maroubra during the Christmas school holidays.

This year will see the addition of a new webcast – proudly presented by Tracks Magazine – which will stream the event worldwide via carveprojunior.com.

The Carve Pro Junior and the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage are proudly sponsored by Carve, Ocean and Earth, NRMA, Randwick City Council, Australian Skin Cancer Clinics, Tracks Magazine, Coastalwatch Plus, Souths Juniors, Ohana Ocean Athletics, The Illicit Drugs in Sport Program, World Surf League (WSL) and Surfing NSW.

About the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage:

Since 2007, more than 2500 kids have participated in the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage around Australia. 2015 will be the third year the former grassroots junior series will be compressed and fine-tuned into an elite event.
