What Would An Artificial Wave Tour Look Like?

Like this if you can believe a fabricated press release from 2020.

Waco, Texas (Sunday, December 2020) – The Artificial Ripping Surf Experience (ARSE) is proud to announce the 2021 artificial wave tour has been locked down. The 13 events will feature the world’s best tank rippers battling it out to be crowned the first ever ARSE Champion.

After a historic agreement between all the current wave pool wave generating systems in the market including American Wave Machines, CityWave, Kelly Slater Wave Company, Murphy's Waves, Wave Garden, WaveLoch, and Webber Wave Pools and Jackson Dorian Signature Series, the artificial wave tour will kick off in URBNSURF Melbourne at Easter.

“It’s punchy for sure to go head-to-head against the annual Rip Curl Pro at Bells, but we believe Victorian surf fans are looking for something new and exciting,” said ARSE President Strider Wasilewski. “This is the future. And the surf is guaranteed. And with our house band Cosmic Psychos we are really tapping into the youth market.”

The Australian leg will include the new sites at Sydney and Perth, before finishing off at the Surf Lakes site in Yeppoon. With Yeppoon finally operational at the end of 2020 after three years of construction that event could be considered to include the heaviest slabs on the ARSE Tour.

The American leg also looks intriguing with the BP Oil Pro at BSR Waco followed immediately by the Surf Ranch Pro at Lemoore. With the WSL divesting its commercial interest from the Kelly Slater inspired wave in 2020 the Surf Ranch has readily got behind ARSE in a big way. The other events will be in Austin Texas, making the American Lone Star state a central hub of the artificial wave explosion.

Europe too is well represented with O'Neill’s Cold Water Series taking in Snowdonia, Bristol, Paris, Rotterdam, The Netherlands and culminating at the Wave Garden’s Zarautz testing base. As ever this leg will be a pivotal stop on the inaugural ARSE World Title. In yet another fascinating innovation Munich will too host a stop on its Eisbach River. ARSE organisers believe River surfing has its place in the new world order and with BMW coming on board had no hesitation adding the iconic standing wave.

Elsewhere recent upgrades to facilities at Siam Park in Tenerife, Malaysia’s Sunway Lagoon and the Wadi Adventure in the United Arab Emirates round out a truly international tour held in best artificial waves on the planet.

“This is going to be sick,” said Strider. “The ocean has its place, but if you’ve sat through as many lay days as I have, you’ll know competition wise it can’t compare. The future is chlorinated and today marks a huge step forward in the progression of professional surfing.”
