Bond University is conducting research at one of the world’s first Water Based Research Units, in acute and chronic surfing injuries. The project has been divided up into three phases in order to comprehensively analyse surfing injuries and develop surf specific exercises for prevention. Phase one is a national online survey, which aims to gain an overview of where the injuries are occurring, the types of injuries and the causes of injury. This will provide key information for phase 2 and 3 where a group of surfers will undergo a series of musculoskeletal and exercise assessments in order to identify asymmetries in muscle length, strength and/or fitness. This will result in the design of surf specific exercises in order to promote longevity in a sport which we all love. To be part of this research please click on the link below and complete the survey. At least one year of surfing (short or long board) experience is needed. Please note that you do not have to have an injury to complete the survey, we can learn just as much from those who are un-injured.
