TASMANIAN SURFERS (Friday December 2 Coffs Harbour NSW) Hamish Renwick and Kyle Cooper continued their run at the Action Sports Ready Australian Junior Surfing Titles presented by Soundwave and the pair made history by winning Tasmania’s first ever under 19 Boy’s All Star Schools Surfing title.

In a nail biting final the boy’s held the lead throughout but were seriously challenged by Team Victoria late in the final and managed to hang on and win by just 0.6 of a point, the final score line being Tasmania 21.05  to Victoria 20.45.

“ It’s so good to win this final – before we came here we were sort of confident that we could do it, we were both psyching  each other up and we really focused on trying to win the thing and it’s paid off” said Renwick.

“It’s sends a message to the rest of Australia in surfing that we’re no longer easy beats in this sport and we’re proud to do that for Tassy”said  teammate Kyle Cooper.

“Tasmania has become famous for surfing over the past 10 years due to the incredible waves we have, especially Shipstern’s and there’s a surge in talented surfers developing and we feel a part of that surge and it’s just awesome “added Renwick.

Renwick will now go into the semi finals of the individual under 18 division full of confidence and hopefully tomorrow add an individual title to his team win.

The waves were again good for today’s action which decided finalists across most divisions.

With a lot on the line high scores and big moves were the only way through to tomorrow’s final day which is again expected to be finalised in excellent waves at Park Beach.

Standout surfers across the day included, but weren’t limited to Jordan Lawler (Nth Narrabeen), Michael Wright (Byron Bay), Eli Steele (Sunshine Coast), Hayden Cervi (Sunshine Coast), Dylon Hunt (Crescent Head) and Ellie Jean Coffey (Crescent Head).

Tomorrow will be all finals action across individual divisions and MR shield school divisions and will be a short day; beginning around 8am and finished by noon.

Live broadcast is available through the official website http://prosurfinglive.com/live/surfingaustralia/junior/, which will also provide the latest news, photos and videos.
