Kael Walsh is Ticking Boxes

The young West Australian fills our hearts with hope.

Australian surfing is in flux right now. The old guard of champions who served us so well have either moved on, or will be soon enough. Sure we’ve still got Julian, Owen, Wilko, Ace and Connor representing us on the tour, but 2017 final QS rankings showed that there is a potential Australian vacuum beginning to show. Only one Australian surfer made it onto the tour, and that was 25-year-old Wade Carmichael.

It’s heartening then to see clips like this from Kael Walsh drop. The kid is ticking all the boxes – power, progression and a little bit of x-factor to boot. Much like everyone’s favourite Australian animal of the moment Mikey Wright.

Whether he’s keen to pursue the tour or a singlet free surf career remains to be seen, but Kael gives us hope that if he and Mikey can join the elite ranks Australia’s near surfing future could shape up pretty nicely indeed.
