Four years ago Mark Mathews traveled to Hainan, China, to surf in the Hainan Open. While he was there he met the local kids and encouraged them to learn how to surf under his guidance. Four years later and Mark has returned to Hainan to see how the groms have progressed. This little clip isn’t about high performance surfing but more about the lifestyle and stoke getting in the water brings.
“It just shows that we humans aren’t that different around the world, and the sport of surfing proves that,” says Mark.
Whether locked deep in a mutant slab or helping kids get excited about surfing for the first time in China Mark Mathews looks very much at home.
