Before Rob Machado was the long haired, drifter and icon to surf yogis he was a competitive machine. After a succesful junior career he graduated to the CT and finished 3rd on the rankings in the year 2000. Then after suffering an injury the following season he was unceremoniously booted off tour after failing to convince his peers he was worthy of the injury wildcard. As fate would have it, Bob Hurley opened his deep pockets, sponsored Rob, and told him to go freesurfing.
