These days we’re used to seeing Russ Bierke pushing the limits of what waves are considered rideable. Knifing under mountainous Jaws caverns, or negotiating the step at giant Shipsterns whilst still in the tube, not to mention his last movie Flow State, which earned him the Heavy Water Award at this year’s Surfer Poll.
In this clip, Russ steps it down a notch and retreats into the Australian desert for some fun slabs (for Russ that is, terrifying for a normal human) with good mate Darcy Piper, and it is still well worth your time as both an entertaining clip, and a study on how to tackle the good old Australian rock shelf.
