The Triple Crown wasn't the only event to go down on the North Shore this season. One cool alternative gathering, surrounded by much less fanfare and a whole lot of fun, was the Vans Duct Tape Festival.
The premise of the event was as follows. Four surfers – Dane Reynolds, Wade Goodall, Nathan Fletcher and Alex Knost were all to handshape two boards each for use on the North Shore. The surfers would then travel to the fabled stretch with their crafts, meet up with a bunch of crew for a fun day of waveriding, after which the boards would be left for kids to ride.
