Simon Anderson on Bells ‘81

And the famous debut of the thruster at giant Bells Bowl.

With the “50 Year Storm” producing giant conditions at this year’s Rip Curl Pro, the inevitable comparisons to 1981’s giant Bells swell were drawn ad nauseam.

In our efforts to compare the two we stumbled across this clip of Simon Anderson and Steve Robertson discussing the swell, and the debut of the thruster during the event.

It’s  a goldmine of information, and is interspersed with footage from the ’81 event.

What’s your call? Maybe this year had a couple a bigger rogue ones, but ’81 gets the nod every day of the week in terms of quality.
