Located in the frigid waters of Kommetjie near Capetown, South Africa’s Sunset is one of the continent’s (and probably the world’s) most challenging waves. Like its Hawaiian cousin, it features huge, tee-pee peaks that break a long way offshore. With the evolution of big wave paddle surfing, SA’s Sunset has become something of a proving ground for those who want to demonstrate they can navigate a nine-foot-plus board around a deep-water line-up that shifts and bends across a massive playing field. Matt Bromley and Twiggy Baker are Sunset devotees along with a crew of hardy locals. Big, rollercoaster drops and giant barrels keep them coming back.
