Question. Is the initial buzz of surfing captured via the drone angle beginning to wear off? We think so, but that’s not to say it doesn’t have its place. Of which this clip is a perfect example. There would’ve been no other effective way to capture an intimate view the recent sessions that went down on the Gold Coast. Shooting from the water? The current was so strong you’d literally need legs the size of trees to keep pace. What about the back of a ski? The footage is usually prone to jerkiness. The land? Too far away for most.
So sure, the drone angle takes away from the size, dilutes the drama and the technique employed by the surfer, but without them we wouldn’t be able to get a quick mid week fix from a clip like this.
