Watch: Dylan Graves on Becoming Better Allies to the LGBTQ+ Surfing Community

exploring the stereotypical perceptions that exist within surf culture.

Breaking Waves is an inspired new series from Vans that aims to shed light on often overlooked social issues and topics. Within our surfing culture, as with many parts of society, there has been a tendency to avoid uncomfortable issues and conversations, and it’s great to see Vans intentionally meeting these issues head-on, to spark conversation, to shine a light on them so we can reflect, address it, and hopefully move on for the better together.

In episode one, Dylan Graves meets up with California-based organisation, Queer Surf. Queers Surf’s aim is to provide a safe environment for marginalised people, who otherwise may feel intimidated or ostracised by surf culture, to get together and enjoy the pleasure of riding waves.

He also sits down with Lee-Ann Curren, daughter of Tom, to discuss her journey and the struggles she endured as a queer surfer in the industry.
