It was sometime around the beginning of February that the Southern Gold Coast points awoke from a lengthy slumber. Well, Greenmount and Kirra at least. While those two dished up some dreamy tubes to a wave starved crew, the normally ferocious Snapper was nowhere to be seen. A lack of sand behind the rock meant the wave that normally sits at the top of the famous Superbank run was drowning under too much water.
Fast forward a couple of weeks, however, and it was a whole different story. A slab of sand had filtered into position behind the rock between swells and in late Feb, where there was a deep hole only weeks before, there were now backless below seal level beasts erupting behind the rock.
