It’s around this time of year that the Pacific swell engine stutters to life and begins to send swell toward the point breaks of Queensland’s Gold Coast. And at the tail end of last week, the Kirra hosted one hell of an early-season bash.
It was straight out of the Gold Coast surfing fantasy textbook. Crystal cylinders of water erupting in inches of water over a ruler-edge bank. However, fantasies ain’t always free. To score your own slice of perfection you had to deal with a sweep that’d even send Trevor Hendy on a one-way trip to Tugan. Not-to-mention the feverish crowds, most of which are blind in their left eyes.
Sometimes it’s easier to just watch and imagine.
