Watch: Mason Ho’s Plastic Catching Boat Inspired, Akila Aipa Shaped Craft

A wild-looking outline, but if anyone can ride it, it’s Mason.

Akila Aipa, son of the late and great Ben Aipa, is a shaper and surfer of the highest order. His father instilled in Akila a knowledge of crafts from all eras of surfing, and the many and varied outlines he’s capable of crafting are a testament to that.

Keen to make a statement about his commitment to doing better for his son’s generation in regards to the conservation of the planet, Akila shaped up the wild design you can see in the clip above. It was inspired by the revolutionary plastic catching boat developed by Boyan Slat, which aims to intercept and remove the plastic in river systems before it enters the ocean.

Here we see Mason and good friend Sheldon Paishon take the unique craft for a spin. Do they have some fun in it? You bet!
