Ok, the footage is not crisp but even with the grain, it does give you a feel for what Rabbit was like in his Rock Star hey-day. You’ve been listening to him wax lyrical and sound distinguished on the WSL webcast but it’s nice to remember Bugs was pro surfing’s ultimate showman.
As for ‘The Performers’ the surf movie. It’s generally credited with being the first incarnation of a team rider film. Quiksilver was the dream team. Budgets were big and the soundtrack epic. My favourite section: Richard Cram ‘Burning Down the House ’ with Talking Heads. It would be great to see Quiksilver re-release a digitized, high-quality version, but it’s likely they don’t have rights to those big songs in perpetuity, which makes things a little tricky. Meanwhile, enjoy the low-fi jam.
