WSL Adds HT’s To 2016 WQS Schedule

WQS goes mental in the Mentawai.

The WQS is set to become a tube quest as it announces a 1000 event at HT’s in the Mentawai islands. The fabled right is considered one of the best waves in the world and if the event does go ahead it will provide the setting for one of pro surfing’s best ever tube duels.

The formal announcement about the HT’s (also known as Lance’s Right) event is due to be made in the next few days and comes in the wake of the confirmation of Keramas as another WQS location on the 2016 season.

Although the low rating of the events means they won’t offer major points or prize money, they are likely to generate plenty of interest from WQS surfers looking to score perfection with just a couple of other guys out.

When Tracks asked highly rated WQS surfers, Zeke Lau and Seth Moniz what they thought about the idea, they responded with wide-eyed disbelief.

“I’m going!” big Zeke stated emphatically. “They should make that a Prime Bra!”

It seems likely team managers will have a flood of surfers insisting their sponsors pay whatever it takes to get them to the Mentawai Islands for an event which, as Seth Moniz suggested, promises to be “mental”.
